[News] TVXQ’s debut album makes a sudden increase in sales

Recently, TVXQ's debut album 'Hug' jumped its way up to second place on the Hanteo real-time album sales chart.

As it's been seven years since their debut album was released, what could be the explanation for this sudden increase in sales?

As all of you know, the group made its comeback with just two members, Yunho and Changmin, after three of its members - Junsu, Jaejoong and Yoochun - left the agency to form their own unit, JYJ. Before the beginning of this mess, the group promoted in Japan for a long period of time, giving fans no chance to see them on Korean variety shows. They were heartbroken to see that the group split into two before returning to Korea, as they would not be shown together as five.

However, with the current promotions of the TVXQ duo, fans have been able to see them on numerous variety shows, such as SBS’s Running Man, KBS’s Happy Together, and SBS’s Strong Heart. This gave them incredible exposure to the public once again, resulting in many new fans who have little knowledge of the group's history.

One reason for the sudden rise in sales for the group's debut album is partly due to these new fans, who are curious about the group's past and how they started their career.

Currently, both TVXQ's 'Keep Your Head Down Special Edition' and 'Hug' is ranked high on the Hanteo charts.

[News] JYJ performs Chajatta on 2010 KBS Drama Awards

After seemingly faced with an endless stream of obstacles, the year is ending well for the JYJ boys who finally performed for a tv show broadcast.

Because of their ‘delicate’ situation with SM Entertainment, JYJ have been unable to perform on TV until KBS intervened recently, inviting them to perform at the 2010 KBS Drama Awards.

The boys did not however perform tracks from their new album The Beginning, instead they performed Chajatta [Found You] – a ballad track from the Sungkyunkwan Scandal OST, which KBS stated was perfectly alright since Yoochun was the male lead for the drama.

Regardless, fans were delighted to see JYJ performing on TV finally and this might serve as the catalyst to seeing them getting more opportunities to appear or perform on tv in future.

[News] JYJ says there is a possibility of resuming activities as a 5 members TVXQ

With the second court hearings having taken a place not too long ago, the result of JYJ's lawsuit against SM Entertainment is still unknown.

After debuting in 2003 in Korea and becoming the most successful Korean boy band in recent years, they then marched towards Japan in 2005. In Japan, they became the most successful Korean artist to ever enter the market, having eight #1 singles on the Oricon chart (record is unsurpassed). The group then ended their activities and went on hiatus on April 3, 2010 after releasing their final Japanese single, "With All My Heart" and final Japanese album "Best Selection 2010".

After a 2 year 3 month hiatus, members Yunho and Changmin will be returning to the music scene as TVXQ and releasing an album on January 5th, and Japanese single on January 26th. They have already released an OST for the drama "Athena".

What is JYJ's reaction to Yunho and Changmin's comeback?

In a recent interview with Money Today Star News, JYJ expressed their disappointment that TVXQ must promote as two separate teams. As frustrating as that may be, the trio expressed that they would like to see each other to do well.

Yoochun commented, "It's not important who gets to use the name TVXQ right now. We three were and still are TVXQ, all five are members of TVXQ."

Junsu then added, "It is complicated and disappointing but we must continue on with our activities without shame, even though there is a wall between us."

Then Star News asked the question many fans have been wanting to voice, "Is there any possibility for the members of TVXQ to come back together?"

The members replied, "We are always open to the possibility. If it was a problem we could solve among ourselves, we would solve it right away."

Lastly, Jaejoong added, "Even though it is disappointing with the current situation. We would like to welcome the activities of the two members. When the five of us are together, we bring out the best of TVXQ and it gives us great pride that we are part of the group that is worthy of that name. If you are true to the name TVXQ, please buy their album."

[News] KBS confirms JYJ’s performance for the ‘2010 Drama Awards’

Last week, JYJ’s first tv broadcast appearance in Korea via KBS’s “2010 Drama Awards” was reported to be under discussion by both parties.

Recently, a representative from KBS’s drama team confirmed on December 14th that JYJ will be performing “Found You” – a track from the “Sungkyunkwan Scandal” OST – for December 31st.

Representatives of JYJ and KBS were said to have argued over the number of songs to be performed, but both sides compromised to KBS’s initial request for a one-song congratulatory performance.

JYJ met with various obstacles in October after the release of their debut album, “The Beginning“, due to legal issues with SM Entertainment that are still unresolved as yet.

Yet KBS came forward and requested their appearance, reasoning that Yoochun was one of the leading stars for its drama “Sungkyunkwan Scandal”, and that JYJ sang the OST track for it.

This performance may allow future opportunities for the boys to perform in additional public venues.

[News] 101207 Because of JYJ, Nature Republic's Sales Quadrupled

Last month, due to the Yeonpyeong Island bombing incident, the main source of revenue from tourists coming from sales of cosmetics stores in the Myeongdong distrct have decreased by 30%. On the contrary, sales from Nature Republic has increased by 4 times compared to the average volume of sales.

As the spokes-people for the Nature Republic brand and the center of the hot Hallyu wave, JYJ held their Seoul concert on November 27 and 28, spurring a massive influx of Japanese fans as well as tourists from other countries and initiating a cosmetics-buying frenzy.

Despite being under the extremely tense situation of the bombing attack, the reason for Korea's increase of tourism has every reason to be associated with JYJ's influence.

However, other cosmetic brands have also suffered a 20%-50% decrease of sales, even with the endorsements of Won Bin, Kim Hyun Joong, 2PM, Song Joong Ki, and SNSD. JYJ has without a doubt, the most influence across the southeast Asian countries with noticeable effects.

After Rain's endorsement, JYJ's invitation of being the faces of Nature Republic is positively expanding the industry's market share.

[News] JYJ was unable to perform at the “Blue Dragon Film Awards”

It was recently revealed that the trio of JYJ attempted to make an appearance on a broadcast show, but were subsequently rejected.

According to an industry representative, JYJ was scheduled to be in the line-up for KBS 2TV’s “31st Blue Dragon Film Awards” broadcast live on November 26th. The trio rushed to pass the KBS review a week before the ceremony in order to take part in the event.

Artists normally submit their work for review before the release of their album, but JYJ submitted their first album, “The Beginning“, nearly a month after its release. JYJ’s KBS review included a total of seven potential songs to be performed at the ceremony.

Unfortunately, their appearance ended up being miscast due to outstanding disputes with their agency, SM Entertainment, and pressure from the Korean Federation of Pop Culture and Art Industry (KFPCAI); the KFPCAI sent out official letters to both public and cable broadcasting companies, as well as major music distributors requesting to restrict the appearances of JYJ.

The “Blue Dragon Film Awards” is not the only event JYJ is barred from. The trio’s songs have yet to make radio or TV appearances two months into its release, despite viewers and listeners consistently requesting for their songs.

Another industry representative revealed, “JYJ will be met with more obstacles if they do not solve their issue with SM Entertainment. A lot of producers are raising their voices concurrently to exclude JYJ’s activities in order to make sure such a controversy does not happen again.”

[News] JYJ Holds Worldwide Concert In Seoul

JYJ officially kicked off their first solo concert titled “JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul” on November 27th, 2010 at the Seoul Jamsil Olympic Stadium. More than 30,000 fans which consist of locals and foreign fans across Asia flocked to the venue just to see the boys in action. The boys put on another show on November 28th.

Before the concert started, JYJ expressed their condolences to the victims of YeonPyeong.

The concert was scheduled to start at 7PM but it got delayed for an hour which left the fans freezing out in the cold. However, Jaejoong compensate by apologizing to them via his twitter.

JYJ belted out a total of 20 songs from their album including solo numbers of each members and revealed two new tracks titled ‘Mission’ and ‘IDeal Scenario’.

The whooping 2 and a half hours concert was directed by American concert producer Jerry Slaughter who has worked with Christina Aguilera, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, Pussycat Dolls and etc.

The original plan to cover the stadium like a dome to maximize the lighting effect as well as the sound quality was halted due to the bad weather. Unfortunately, the rain has tear down the tent structure of the dome which took them 3 days to install it. JYJ could not hide their disappointment but they have prepared a splendid performance for the fans.

[News] JYJ’s first concert starts off on a chilly note

More than 30,000 fans packed Seoul’s Olympic Main Stadium on November 27th, enduring the cold weather for JYJ’s first concert from their JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul. Early reports stated the concert was successful, but more detailed reviews of the concert now are stating otherwise.

After all of the issues JYJ faced throughout their US tour, due to the many mishaps from their pr and events management team, we were hoping they would have better luck back home. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case according to this report by the Korea Times:

Despite the chilly weather, some 30,000 fans cheered on for the band, but JYJ failed to fully satisfy high expectations due to poor preparations.

Members of boy band JYJ may have made headlines with their departure from one of Korea’s most popular bands, TVXQ, and with their efforts in broadening their fan base, but it seems they will need to work on the basics: professionalism and consideration to the audience.

The three-member group — consisting of Yu-chun, Jae-joong and Jun-su— held its first concert “JYJ Worldwide Concert in Seoul” in freezing weather at the Olympic Main Stadium, Sports Complex, Saturday night.

It snowed and rained a bit in the morning, and although the weather seemed to get better during the day, it got chilly and very windy again as evening descended.

By the time the concert was scheduled to start, which was 7 p.m., the bare and open stadium was literally ice cold.

To make matters worse, the concert was delayed for an hour, which made even the most devoted fans a bit frustrated.

Around 7:20, the three members suddenly appeared on the stage, thanking the fans for coming and also expressing their condolences to the victims of Yeonpyeong Island, where a North Korean artillery attack took place on Nov. 23.

“We are sorry for the delay,” was all the members said regarding the delay and they left the stage, leaving the fans waiting in the cold for another 40 minutes, some shouting “come out!” and “why aren’t you coming out!”

When the show finally started, which was around 8:10 p.m., it seemed the fans forgot all about the icy temperatures and the delay, as they shouted the members’ names and waved bright red glow sticks in the air in perfect harmony.

The members performed songs from their first album “The Beginning.” The first track “Empty” was impressive, along with the other numbers, as the group managed to put on a great show despite the cold.

Their hands and noses were bright red from the wind, but this didn’t stop them from dancing and running around the stage, waving and shouting out to the screaming crowd. Each member had an individual stage as well, with Jae-joong’s sexy track “Still In Love,” Yu-chun’s ballad medley and Jun-su’s reinterpretation of “I Can Soar” with an orchestra playing in the backdrop.

The group also presented some new tracks as well, such as “Nine,” “Fallen Leaves” and “Mission Make it.”

When the intro for “Be My Girl Remix” came out of the speakers, the crowd shouted even more loudly and followed the groups’ dance moves perfectly. Yu-chun recently posted the video for the number’s choreography on his twitter, and the fans managed to learn the moves and display a memorable flash-mob experience for the three members.

After singing some 18 songs, the members left the stage with the fans continuously shouting out their names. But JYJ, despite the fans who had waited for some freezing 10 minutes after their departure, didn’t return to give an encore.

Overall, the show was fun and entertaining. JYJ’s agency explained that the concert was produced by creative director Jeri Slaughter, who worked with Mariah Carey and Christina Aguilera, but there was nothing extraordinary.

Laser shows, fireworks and unique installations have been around in the pop idol concert scene for quite some time; there’s even been pianos held up in the air and members flying over their fans on wires.

The two big screens on each side of the main stage was impressive, but it was not enough for the fans who sat in the back as it mostly offered full shots instead of close ups. Due to the frigid weather, the three singers also had a challenging time singing their songs, which mostly included their signature powerful dance choreography.

The concert’s stage effects would have been a bit better if they went on with their original plan in covering the open ceiling with a specially-made dome, but due to the grueling weather, this plan was scrapped.

Scrapping the dome was not only a regrettable incident for JYJ, but also for the fans as well. The tickets for the concert ranged from 110,000 won to 198,000 won, and concert organizers explained that the cost was a bit high due to the special effects, including the dome. Tickets for a concert held by SM Entertainment at the same venue cost 11,000 won to 88,000 won, a lot less expensive than JYJ’s.

In the end, fans had to pay full price for something they didn’t get to see, had to wait over an hour in the freezing cold without getting a clear explanation, plus were unable to enjoy an encore with the band.

It would have been hard for any experienced band or artist to perform in such adverse conditions, but it would have been more professional to prepare for the unexpected, especially if it was being held in late November, at an open and exposed stadium and charging a lot of money for seats.

[News] TVXQ to come back in 2011

SM Entertainment revealed on the 23rd via TVXQ’s homepage, “2011, TVXQ will be returning to you all.”

SM released a statement saying,

“After the 3 TVXQ members left, for over a long year, both U-Know Yunho and Max Changmin have refrained from musical activities.

The two members as well as the company wanted to keep TVXQ alive, thinking about the never changing hearts of our loyal fans who have waited a long time.

As indicated by the ruling, all of TVXQ’s activities need to be done through SM, unfortunately, the three members that left have regretfully not responded to any of our offers for activities as TVXQ. After long and careful consideration, we made this decision.

For U-know Yunho and Max Changmin, who never left and kept their dreams as TVXQ, we have decided together with the two members to keep TVXQ alive.

No matter what happens, we believe that TVXQ should continue for the love and trust of the fans who created TVXQ together with us.

We are not ruling out any possibilities in the future. Continuing TVXQ is the best way to repay the fans who love and waited for TVXQ.”

The two member TVXQ is scheduled to make a comeback in January 2011

[News] JaeChunSu pay their respects to the late Park Yong Ha

Upon hearing news of Park Yong Ha’s death, JaeChunSu were put into a complete state of shock instantly shedding tears over their lost friend.

On the 12th, all three members visited Park Yong Ha’s grave in Gyeonggi-do at the local cemetery to place flowers and pay their respects.

Jaejoong was particularly shocked to hear the passing of Park Yong Ha while in the United States where he reported to have been in a huge state of shock that lasted for quite some time and they would have come to the funeral if not for their busy schedules which prevented them from doing so.

The boys finished recording their new album on the 11th in Los Angeles, and made their way back to Korea. All of the members are very fatigued and are said to be in a weak condition, so they will be resting for awhile.

[News] JaeChunSu in Popeye Magazine
